“WOUNDED IN MINE OWN HOUSE”
April 15th, 2009JOHN 19:1-22
The chapter starts off with Pilate making the unforgettable order to scourge Jesus, and then the soldiers took it upon themselves to plait a crown of thorns and put it upon his head. They also found a purple robe and wrapped around the then beaten and bruised Christ. And said,Hail, King of the Jews! and they struck him with their bare hands. As Jesus stood there bloody and so weak, Pilate made the infamous statement, Behold the MAN!
Yes, he was all MAN. He felt every fists that hit him, he bled real blood, his eyes were black and bloodshot from the treacherous beating he had taken. The very flesh was taken from his back and laid open to the sand and dirt that would cake upon his every wound. Barely standing and barely breathing, they took Jesus and led him away!!
As the cheif priest and officers saw him, they cried out Crucify him! Crucify him!
John 1:10-11 - He was in the world and the world was made by him, but the world knew(recognized) him not.
v 11 He came unto his own, and his own(own people) received him not.
Let’s be perfectly honest with each other right here, if you would go to your family today and offer them all $1,000,000.00 a piece, and they took you out in the street and beat you until you could not stand up, and then they hung you on a cross till death, what would you do to them if you could retaliate? Hypothetical question, but the fact remains that Jesus loved the very people that hung him!
John 19:7 - The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.
So the very responsibility of the crucifixion of the Christ fell upon the Jews, they said,”Away with him! Away with him! Crucify him! Crucify him! The cheif priests said, We have no king but Caeser.
The point I am making is that from all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations, so Jesus is in the lineage of the greatest patriarchs that the Bible has record of.
BUT!
Is. 53:3-5 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and aquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised and we esteemed him not.
Surely he hath bourne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
But he was WOUNDED for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
In spite of the maliciousness of the Jews and the roman soldiers, in spite of being WOUNDED and beaten and hung on a cross, in spite of the hatred and wickedness of humanity, he could give Zechariah some good news!
Zech. 12:10 - And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of GRACE and of SUPPLICATIONS: and they shall look upon me whom they have PIERCED, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his first-born.
Grace - graciousness, favored
Supplications - literally to stoop in kindness to an inferior - have pity upon
John 19:34 - But one of the soldiers with a spear PIERCED his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
After seven days of fasting and locked up in his own office, the Rev. G.T. Haywood came out singing, “I SEE A CRIMSON STREAM”. The Chorus goes like this:
I see a crimson stream of blood,
It flows from Calvary,
Its waves which reach the throne of God,
Are sweeping over me
Psalms 46:4 - There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most high.
People often ask me, “How can I take my time and go almost every night and teach Bible lessons all over this county?” It’s easy when you realize that when you show up at a house, and there are those precious souls waiting for the word of God. Waiting for the crimson stream of blood to start flowing through their house, cleansing their sins, saving their household, it’s all worth it!
Though we may have gotten wounded in our own house, there is a Saviour that knows how we feel, that’s why he was wounded and died!
So the fountain could flow - So the fountain could flow!!! I feel even right now - let it flow, let it flow, let it flow!!!
God bless
